Fantasyland:
A smooth transition with a covered wooden section happens as guests walk to Fantasyland. Peter Pan’s Flight is the closest attraction to Pirates of the Caribbean. It makes sense as both feature pirates and it flows naturally. Peter Pan’s Flight here uses a Vekoma ride system combined with fiberglass ships carved and manufactured by Zamperla from Italy. The goal was to boost capacity versus the other installations, but it didn’t work. With only 700 riders per hour, the line quickly spilled outside of its permanent queue, forcing cast members to create “temporary”, but rebuilt every day, queue extensions with poles and white ropes. To say it looks awful is being very polite, but since 1992, it’s been the challenge of operational cast members working at Peter Pan’s Flight.
Fantasyland here has the beautiful Sleeping Beauty Castle, with a walkthrough downstairs. A dragon sleeps in his lair, spewing smoke as he snores away.

Behind the castle, the Carrousel de Lancelot (Lancelot’s Carrousel) was built and is quite unique: Zamperla manufactured the structure and mechanical components. Disney truly spared no expenses for the horses and chariots: the 16 outside row horses, which are easily visible to onlookers, are made of wood and were by artists in Pennsylvania. This had not been done in dozens of years at that point. The 70 horses inside are fiberglass copies of the wooden horses on Liberty, the historical Philadelphia Toboggan Company (PTC) carousel now called Prince Charming Regal Carousel at the Magic Kingdom in California. This unique pedigree costs a lot, but the results show.

The Tea Cups and Dumbo are Zamperla creations, with the new 16 elephants Dumbo becoming Imagineering’s standard “round ride” ride system. It replaced the original ten elephant rides at Disneyland and Magic Kingdom. That ride system received new ride vehicles: Flying Carpets (Magic Kingdom and Walt Disney Studios Paris), dinosaurs (Triceratop Spin at Disney’s Animal Kingdom), and flying saucers (Orbitron at Hong Kong Disneyland.)

Snow White and Pinocchio were represented by dark rides, using three rows, 6 passenger Zamperla ride vehicles. Those give a nice capacity boost, which helps with the lines they see in California and Tokyo with their 4 passenger cars.

It’s a Small World here is a flooded building with Intamin supplying the ride system. The exterior though is like Disneyland, with outdoor covered loading and the steam train going through the façade.

Under the steam train Fantasyland station is the Fantasyland Theater, for shows.
Restaurant wise, the very expensive Auberge de Cendrillon (Cinderella’s Inn) solved the capacity and logistical issues of the Florida castle sit-down restaurant by moving it behind the castle. The Chalet de la Marionnette (Puppet’s Cottage, not a good name when translated to English) and Buena Note Pizzeria were quick-service restaurants. Behind what you’d believe to be the façade to Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride is instead Toad Hall, a quick service restaurant serving Fish and Chips. All in all, Fantasyland supplied a massive number of attractions for the park, but was missing a true headliner outside of It’s a Small World.

Discoveryland:
Over in Discoveryland, which is how Disney renamed Tomorrowland here, the original concept was amazing. Tony Baxter (taking inspiration from his never-realized Discovery Bay in California) and Tim Delaney decided to make it timeless by tapping into visionaries and timeless depictions of the future and space. Visionarium is a 360° theater where guests travel through time with Nine Eyes and Time Keeper, meeting famous European authors H.G. Wells and Jules Verne. Autopia used the classic name for the car ride seen at the other parks, and Orbitron is a new take on the traditional rockets spinning in the air flat ride. It is on the ground and uses 12 rockets, manufactured by Zamperla. Even though the guests are lower to the ground, the land still has kinetic energy thanks to the bronze Planetarium that spins high above guests heads.

Hyperion is a multi-function massive facility, housing a theater and the park’s primary hamburger restaurant. The airship from Mysterious Island sits above the entrance to the restaurant area, abandoned. Two massive openings were constructed on the other side of the building and plugged…

Past Hyperion, guests arrived at Star Tours and Captain Eo. Both were the same as in California, housed in two massive show buildings. Star Tours here is a six 6 star speeder installation capable of accommodating 2200-2300 riders per hour, which was sorely needed given the massive crowds in the park’s first summer. Captain EO had a good run here but was at a dead end.
Two shops were present in Discoveryland, in addition to the Café des Visionaires (Visionary’s Café.), a sit-down restaurant on Central Plaza.
