Staying at Tokyo Disney: an overview of the Official and Partner Hotels

As noted in our previous article, Tokyo Disney Resort is located east of Tokyo on the Keiyo line.  If staying in Tokyo not at a partner hotel and travelling to the parks each day, take into account the long walk through Tokyo Station to reach the correct platform.  For that reason, selecting a hotel that offers an efficient path to Maihama Station that bypass Tokyo Station is a lot easier.  For those willing to stay near the parks but were unable to reserve a coveted room at the Disney Hotels, the six official hotels all offer bus services to the Bayside Station on the Resort Monorail Line.  They also have ticket counters that sell tickets that guarantee access to the parks on busy days.

The six Official hotels by their distance to Bayside Station are: are

  • Sheraton Grande Tokyo Bay
  • Hotel Okura Tokyo Bay
  • Hilton Tokyo Bay
  • Tokyo Bay Maihama Hotel Club Resort
  • Tokyo Bay Maihama Hotel
  • Sunroute Plaza Tokyo

Out of those, the author stayed at the Sheraton Grande Tokyo Bay before and we strongly recommend booking a room on the Concierge level. Request a park view room and the sights you will get in the morning when you see Tokyo DisneySea in front of you on the balcony are priceless.  The same recommendation goes for the other hotels as well.  The Sheraton Grande Tokyo Bay also features a small Disney shop selling souvenirs.

The rooms on the Concierge Level of the Sheraton Grande Tokyo Bay are among the largest in Japan and are well worth it for a family.

In addition to the Disney resorts and Official hotels, Tokyo Disney has agreements with other facilities around Tokyo.  Those are classified as “Partner Hotels” and price for those varies; they all offer shuttle service to the parks.  The shuttle takes around 15 minutes and here are those hotels and this info is correct as of August 2018:

  • Hotel Emion Tokyo Bay
  • Mitsui Garden Hotel Prana Tokyo Bay
  • Oriental Hotel Tokyo Bay
  • Urayasu Brighton Hotel Tokyo Bay

Tokyo Disney partners with 12 hotels around Tokyo as “Good Neighbor Hotels”.  Complimentary shuttles can be reserved at the hotels and travel time to the parks varies.  One major advantage is that if you’re doing a combined Tokyo/Tokyo Disney trip, you won’t have to change hotels before or after Tokyo Disney since you  will already be in the middle of the action for the city part. Those are the 12 hotels:

  • Dai-chi Hotel Ryogoku
  • Grand Nikko Tokyo Daiba
  • Hilton Hotel Odaiba
  • Hotel East21 Tokyo
  • Hotel Metropolitan Edmont Tokyo
  • Hotel New Otani Makuhari
  • Hotel Springs Makuhari
  • Hotel Sunroute Ariake
  • Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo
  • Keisei Hotel Miramare
  • Tobu Hotel Levant Tokyo
  • Tokyo Bay Ariake Washington Hotel

As noted in our previous article, Tokyo Disney Resort is located east of Tokyo on the Keiyo line.  If staying in Tokyo not at a partner hotel and travelling to the parks each day by train and subway, take into account the long walk through Tokyo Station to reach the correct platform.  For that reason, selecting a hotel that offers an efficient path to Maihama Station that bypass Tokyo Station is a lot easier than transiting Tokyo Station.

The best way to plan your movements around Japan is with Hyperdia: http://hyperdia.com . Enter your starting station, where you want to go and what time you either want to get there or leave.  It will then pull out the most efficient ways with prices, transfers and estimated time it will take.

An example of a hotel with a good station placement is this one where the author has been staying at this hotel in Tokyo when doing solo trips: Comfort Hotel Higashi-Nihombashi.  https://www.choicehotels.com/japan/tokyo/comfort-inn-hotels/jp061 . It is located near Tokyo Station and the fascinating Akihabara district, but the author’s main reason to stay there is this one: by using a nearby subway station, you can get to Maihama in less than 40 minutes and the price is very cheap for solo travelers.  They offer single rooms at a very competitive price and double rooms are also priced well.

The Comfort Hotel Higashi-Nihombashi and Comfort Hotel Higashi-Kanda are good examples of the “Business Hotel” concept in Tokyo.  Those hotels feature small rooms that are very budget friendly and usually are located right near subway and train stations.  For couples and solo travelers, those can make a trip to Japan very affordable.
